What is LED strip?

What is LED strip? An LED strip light is a flexible slimline circuit board, often referred to as LED strip, tape or ribbon, usually 8mm to 12mm in width.  Light emitting diodes are surface mounted at regular intervals.

Benefits of using LED strip lights

  • Affordable.
  • Remarkable illumination.
  • Can be used as primary or secondary lighting within the home or commercial areas - be guided by the lumen output.  The higher the lumen, the brighter the light.
  • High intensity.
  • Reliability.
  • Easy to install - adhesive 3M backing tape for a secure installation.
  • Slimline - discrete and can be installed in the smallest of spaces.
  • Lower energy consumption.
  • Can be cut to measure easily along the cut points.
  • Large variety of colours to choose from inclusive of colour changing.
  • Dim according to mood and ambience - using dimmable control units.
  • Life expectancy -  When installed correctly, LED strip lights have an exceptionally long life span - enjoy many years of illumination without the need for regular replacement.
  • Light emitting diodes operate on low-voltage DC power.

    What LED strip to choose?

For an evenly distributed light - low spotting or low dotting, choose LED strip lights with at least 120 LEDS per metre. The more LEDS the strip has per metre, when installed inside aluminium profile, the smoother the light will appear.

For under cupboard, cabinet, under plinth or wardrobe lighting, where you will not directly see the light, you can use LED strip with less LEDS per metre.

Kitchen LED strip should be splash-proof, manufactured with PU coating for moisture/splash-proof protection.

For high brightness and exquisite illumination choose a high lumen output LED strip

CAUTION - Do not bend LED strip - this could cause damage.  Install correctly.
